Travel plan

The travel plan depends on the length of time you wish to travel. , please take some of these recommendations into consideration:

One week trip:

You will arrive at the yacht harbour Horta at the island Fajal. The following day we sail to the island Sao Jorge arriving in the harbour, Vellas. This is a protected bay for safe anchoring. There are beautiful hiking tracks with waterfalls, peaceful districts, salt-water lakes, vineyards and small and outlying villages. The villages are located along to the sea banks.

Next destination is Terceira,  to visit the town “Angra de Herroismo” which is part of the world culture heritage and deserves to time for an extended visit.  Another site of interest to visit are the caves of Graciosa. The next option is the climbing  the volcano Pico on the island of the same name. Plan on a full days’ climb and bring daypacks with essentials.

Then the time comes to return to Horta.  Using that travel route the central group of the Azores has been visited.

Two week trip:

This is an ideal period of travel time. You have the possibility to become accustomed to the life on the boat. The time allows visiting in addition to the central group, the west islands of the Azores called Flores and Corvo.   Flores is one of the nicer island of the Azores and means ‘flowers’. . it is the greenest island with 7 volcano crater lakes, hot sulphur fountains, and the highest waterfall of the Azores.

Three week trip:

By a three week stay there would be the possibility to visit the central, westerly and easterly group of the Azores. The easterly groups are the islands called Sao Miguel and Santa Maria. Sao Miguel is the largest island of the Azores. The capital city is Ponta Delgada  and has large harbour. There is the possibility to berth at a Marina. It is recommended to rent a car to see some of the countryside. Horse rideing treks can be arranged.
